I too gained about 15lbs beyond my ordinary "computer guy" physique last year when the munchies started hitting me hard too. I've lost it all and then some once I started working out 2-3 times/week and tried to make sure that when I'd eat I'd mostly try to pick healthy low-cal foods (or eat beforehand).
If you're smoking alone, then I'd encourage you to invite a buddy over since it'll distract you from eating.
One more thing, is that if you haven't already tried it - you might give the Atkins diet a try eat moderate amounts of fat/protein and almost no carbs and your body will start shedding the pounds.
