Just a thought, but can you run a normal "incandescent" light instead (not so obvious but you dont interupt the light cycle). When vegging, if the plant is more than six weeks old, any prolonged dark periods could trigger flowering, but one long dark period should be OK.
As Jah said the hermie problem shouldn't arise but keep in mind the more you interupt the "normal" cycles, the more stressed the plant will be and then the more chance it will turn 'hermie".
