Sounds like a step back from where we were supposed to be considering Amitabha has basically "Saved" us from our suffering. Sounds a lot like a Jesus-figure to me in western culture, though this is the first time I'm actually hearing of one. It seems like the idea of salvation for those who lacked the ability to help others is a universal theme almost.
The fact that the only thing you need is faith, in other words, to only use faith as your guide to the next life, you allow yourself to be used as a channel to that which you are giving your faith. The power comes from elsewhere and the power you receive from during your life draws you in and that end, but it's not the end. It's not even the begin. The cycle must be broken until you're ready to help others after being able to help yourself.
