There is nothing techinical or synthetic about mushrooms, nor biological about the trip itself. You are taking a dried fungus with psilocybin and psilocin, not biological, organic, products of biological processes within the cells of the fungus, and having a perceptual experience, not a controlled experience by any means. The only thing being controlled is your reaction to the experience through will power and concious thought.
I must say I really don't like the way you describe mushrooms in this case.
On 2012, anyone who is sure that nothing will happen sounds just as crazy as the people who do believe something will happen. The skeptics are just more socially accepted, but still have the same pseudopsychotic qualities as the believers.
