Waywo and the Nibblinger
after waywo had escaped certain death by poison mushroom and had walked a pretty good ways, her moccasins began to cry out to her, "waywo, please stop! we are afraid we might catch on fire from all this fast running and quick walking!" so waywo had to stop, and since she had to stop she might as well sit down to rest.
waywo sat down under a boo-bah tree and leaned begainst the trunk. all the old people in the village will tell you that it is terrible bad luck to sit down beneath a boo-bah tree and lean begainst the trunk, but waywo didnt believe in that superstition.
while she cooled her moccasins she checked on the condition of her flower, and it seemed perfectly good. suddenly there was a voice speaking directly into her ear saying "what kind of flower is that? is it good to eat? i want some! give me some flower, waywo!"
it was the nibblinger! a small black forest creature that lived in a hollow log and always wanted to nibble. waywo had to stand up quickly and hold the bingle-bongle flower high over her head so that the nibblinger could not reach it.
"no, nibblinger!" she said, "you must not nibble this flower! i am bringing it to my grandmother for her medicine."
"but i
want it," said the nibblinger, "give it to me, pleeeease!"
