One of the most celebrated plants in the history of cannabis, the Great White Shark is one of the best indicas ever created in Holland. The genetics were selected in the early 90's by Arjan, owner and founder of the Green house Seed Company, starting from a Brazilian-South Indian cross (the same used for creating another worldwide champion, the White Widow). This selected cross was backcrossed to a Super Skunk male, to obtain the gene pool that characterizes this champion.
Great White Shark is synonymous of big yields, short flowering time and great taste and effect. The plant has a typical indica structure, with short and steady internode and a bushy buildup. The branches are short and strong, and the leaf is round and fat, with overlapping leaflets. The edges of the leaflets present a very sharp profile, one that reminds of the teeth of a shark. This detail, always present and easy to see, gave the name to the strain, a real trademark of nature.
At the Green House Seed Company we prefer to grow this monster-indica in hydroponic systems to achieve the maximum yield and potency, but it is known that the sweetest taste is achieved in soil. The flowering time is limited to 8 weeks for commercial harvests, but an extra week will guarantee the most powerful mix of cannabinoids and a great extra-sweet taste. Production can easily reach more than 1 gram per Watt of electricity used, or more than 1000 gr/plant outdoor. Thanks to the dense flower clusters and the high calyx-to-leaf ratio, the buds are very heavy. Resin starts forming already in the third week of flowering, and peaks in the eight week. After nine weeks most glandular trychomes start becoming very matt and the effect turns into a very stoned CBD-like feeling.
The taste of the Great White Shark reminds of sweet summer fruits and has a very candy-like aftertaste. Especially when the buds are well ripen the bouquet becomes more complex, gaining a more woody scent.
The best results were achieved using 30 liters pots filled with rockwool flakes (the light and airy kind). Extra drainage holes were made on the bottom of the pots for facilitating the flushing of the feeding solution. We start this strain at 5.5 pH and 1.5-1.6 EC during the 18 hrs period; when we go into flowering we raise the pH to 5.8 to facilitate the P and K intake and to allow smooth bud formation. The EC can be built up to 1.8 or 2.0. Higher values will require a frequent flushing schedule to get rid of undesired salts. The flowers form very fast, by the third week of flowering the plants are already covered in buds and resin begins to appear.
In soil it is recommended to start with a lower EC (around 1.2-1.4) and to stop the feeding at least two weeks before the end of the crop.
Outdoor the Great White Shark performs well in most settings. The short flowering time allows the plants to finish before the nights get too cold. The density of the buds can be sometimes a problem with heavy rain or prolonged high humidity at the end of flowering; we recommend outdoor growers to protect the plants during the finishing weeks in case of bad weather.
