i would have to say, the major benefit this has over the volcano is the quickness and quietness of it. im a borderline insomniac, without the herb at night, i dont fall asleep until after the sun comes up, adn when i do fall asleep, i have trouble staying asleep. so, when i do wake up in the middle of the night, ill wander out, turn on(or up, i really hardly ever turn it all the way off) the heat, load the bowl if i need to(you can leave a brewing bowl in the whip, hit it as leisurly as you please) take a puff or two, and im back to bed, whereas the volcano would still be preheating. there is also no crinkling of the bag- not an issue during the day, but it can be at 4am when the girlfriend is trying to sleep.
