well the last time i had to test for a job i just quit for about a week and a half, drank about a gallon and a half (maybe) of water for a few days before and just drank a lot of water and took a multivitamin. the vitamin helps replace the water soluable vitamins that come out in your piss.
that is essentially what those drinks do, they also have creatine which helps clean out your system.
in addition, a good b vitamin complex is a good thing to take for a week before (or just a couple multivitamins a day) this helps because one of the effects of b vitamins (b 12 and 6 more specifically) is that they boost your metabolism, and also give you energy (this is mainly what is in those five hour energy's as well)
cranberry juice has a good concentration of natural antioxidants, but i cant really attest to its sucess, but i think the original dilution advice is great, but dont diss the b vitamins, they can help burn some of it out if used pre-emptively
