The perfect bong has a wooden cone/piece/köpf and there is a fine iron screen on the bottom of it. It's the bong screen and it is a very important part of a bong.
Such screens can be found in hardware stores or can be simply removed from household water taps.
They need to be cleaned after a few rips, but they can last quite a while and are worth its weight in gold.

ashcatchers and screens are different. the screen keeps the ash from going through, but an ashcatcher adds another filter. it's really nice for those of us who smoke multiple times a day.
here's a couple examples:
the 2nd pic is the same kind that I have. there are also a lot of two-piece ashcatchers (the first one is a two-piece that is missing the bowl. roor makes a lot of two-piece ashcatchers but they're kinda irritating to work with). the ashcatcher is kinda like a mini bong that you put water into and place into the diffuser. they make any bong twice as nice.
