THe age of the rock depends on the type there are 4 main types.
Sedimentary rocks age depends on when it was lithified. (compacted and compressed) Metamorphic depends on when it was re-crystalized and igneous rock age is determined by when it solidified.

So how do they age these rocks? By dating the carbon, in the life forms pressed into the rock when it was formed? So it would make sense that they have to "search" for old rocks. Am I on the right track?
