Oh, great picture, Flaming Nun. You can see the 2 springs on the sides that hold the top to the bottom. The black control button is hooked to a rheostat so it actually does work from "low to high". Also, the little light tells you if the heat source is on or off. You can also see alkali buildup on the center post in the "dish" shaped bottom. Thats from using tap water or tap water ice cubes in the cooling sink and can be easily removed with CLR. That won't happen if you use distilled water.
