A familiar theme in many of Eiseley' essays/works is that animals understand their roles in the world while humans must continually search for a meaning. It brings up the idea of a catch 22. Man has the greatest idea manipulation capability, but also the greatest question to face in which he cant answer, and that is the purpose to why he is here.
