It seems to me that the world has been consistantly heading towards a more liesurly lifestyle for all. The United States is heading the charge, of course, but everywhere people are getting wealthier and working less. 200 years ago people worked from dusk til dawn, 7 days a week doing intense labour all along. 100 years ago we moved into factories and cut our work down to 12 hours per day, 6 days per week. Now days a 4 day, 40 hour work week is not uncommon.
