Well, I don't really do much if the girls are from seed cause we want to see what they do if left to thier own devices.
There is a height point where I say "whoa" and start using the hemp based twine, but for the most part todays plants have a lot of Indica in them which tends to limit the height they get to indoors.
I like to have the girls go in about 1' tall from soil to tip of plant. That way the 2x-3x stretch is kept managable.
In the clone runs they are placed in anywhere from 6"-2' depending on what they did during the original seed run.
Some like the Viet black would tend to stretch up to 10X what they were when placed into flower.
I placed one clone in at about 6" and it came out about 3' tall (6x)with huge spires of colas.
It's not so much I am a great grower, it's more that I am watching them a lot and writing down what they like and what they don't seem to take to. Each plant is a little different even in the same seed run and that is tough to take into account without paying close attention...
or writing it down and taking pictures.
