People and their preferences for words are ..interesting...

For example, you'll have a mass populace who will call their significant others "Baby". So it'll be commonly accepted to call your s/o an infant child, because we no longer take it as literal. But when a new term of phrase pops up (like one used to label lawful commitment) its irrational?
