That's pretty unhealthy, not only are you setting yourself up to be extremely impaired the next morning (which is dangerous if you have to drive to work), but there most certainly is a NEED for REM sleep, which is what you are depriving yourself of...
And furthermore no, if the OP is legitimately experiencing insomnia as he/she claims, sleep deprived people should not over-exert themselves.......
