yeah i agree that he is not your boyfriend if he asked her out. and i cant understand why he even told you that. i think you should talk to him about "defining" your relationship somehow. does he want to continue seeing other people or is he looking for an exclusive thing? if you want to date just him and he doesnt want that, you need to just break it off cuz you will end up hurt
