While a suspect's silence may be SOMETHING from the standpoint of the police investigation, it is NOTHING as far evidence that can be used in court.
Here in the US, your silence, or your refusal to cooperate in the investigation, can not be used against you in court. A lie however, can.
It may be better to be silent, so as not to accidentally provide false information to the police.
