Getting food: the big event of the day?

I got a long distance phone call from an old friend whom I haven't seen or spoken with for many months. That is a long time considering I used to not go a week without being in his presence. During this phone call we were catching up and although he hadn't changed much there was still much to be divulged about our inner feelings.

He told me he was gaining weight and depending more and more on his guitar for happiness and I told him I was losing my job and hadn't been going out very often.

Then I said this: "It seems like all I have to look forward to these days is when I go out to eat".

He affirmed that basically summed up his life at that point as well. We concluded that we mostly sat around the house until our stomachs began to growl in the late afternoon or evening and then we would journey out to get food and then it's back home to wait for sleep.

It's not terrible, really, just a sincere observation that exposes the monotony of day to day living. Just having someone to say it to seemed to make it all right. All things said, I do miss him.

Edit: please add your own observations of monotonous day to day living. I find them very romantic.
