My daughter spent 2 weeks in jail for dating a guy who said he was 20. He was 16. She was 22. Her charge was interfering with parental control. It is a charge usually reserved for people who kidnap their own kid from their ex-spouse.
The boy kept running away from home. He had her name tattooed on his arm. It was a fucked up mess. The charges were all eventually dropped (lack of evidence), but she still spent 2 weeks locked up, because the parents of the boy couldn't control their kid.
On the other hand....
I work with a guy who said that, when he was 26 and his wife was 13, she walked up to him and said, "I'm gonna marry you someday". He said No Way. She pursued him for 3 years and finally at 16 (and 29), her parents said ok (and so did he). They married at 18 (and 31). They now have 2 sons, ages 10 and 12 and are happy as ever.
So yeah, who can tell.
