AA didn't work , so they went on to create NA, CA etc. for each specific drug.
The biggest problem with the 12 step programs is not teaching people how to live beyond them.
The next biggest problem is the first step...as most I've met doing the twelve step shuffle really aren't "addicted" to anything. Judges call it the "Abuse Excuse", that criminals use to get reduced sentences.
So you end up with a few who have a real "social" problem....say drinking....and a majority of "forced" attendees.
With addiction, after the physical withdrawl is overcome, it's all mental.
And the 12 step game just doesn't offer the qualified psychological evaluation nor treatment needed to reduce the desire to return to addiction.
