I think she was trying to point out exactly what you are saying: not that she should be smoking herb, but that she has a 'successful' life (generalization here, I know) and continues to use marijuana. The fact that your quality of life and usage of marijuana don't correlate is the point she was making... I believe.

while you say oh look im successful, pay taxes, get raped by the system every day...i say look im successful because i do the opposite.
