I feel like it was the right thing to do, though I doubt she will remember, having a religious nutcase for a mom and all.

I used to be a JW, I was born and raised in the religion. I remember alot of the reasons why they don't celebrate certain holidays and birthdays and they are mostly valid imo. But one thing my family was always iffy about was being persistent in door to door ministry. Knocking on someone's door on Christmas is a bit much. We stopped going due to alot of underlying racial tension in our congregation. Its probably been a good 12 years now and I haven't really looked back since.
