I think that it is all chaos and because that is the norm of the human mind it appears to be normal, so once there is a break from the chaotic nature of human thought, a.k.a. the guiding force, we notice and obey it because it is different and we then perceive it as a 'god' like force. Believing that something guides you besides your own thought and mind is a pety human ideal. You are you and what you make of your life. There is no guiding force there is only the probability of events, and how the odds play out dictates our faith.
