I dont think bands have to follow rules or any set guidelines to be into a scene. I think when they first initially pick up the instruments they play what they like and enjoy listening to. If what they like happens to fall into a genre then great if not then thats great too. Once they get better they get more creative and experiment but i think they always seem to stick to a "genre" for a reason, not because of rules, but because theres something about that in which they like.
