In terms of how human beings use the two forces, I think darkness and light are eternally equal, but Light tends to be more powerful since it gains it's power through Unity/Truth/Love while darkness relies in secrecy and cleverness/deception. Light binds things together to create power and strength through cooperation and mutual beneficial gain, while darkness seeks to hold the power within itself and only give with the expectation of receiving much more in return (Star Wars is a great example of how the darkness thinks its more powerful but in reality it is constantly being ursurped by the very means it used to gain the power in the first place).
I find it really interested that through all the near death experiences I've read over the years, when someone immediately passes, they sometimes find themselves in a 'void' that is just solid darkness...but most of the times its a peaceful feeling. Then, far away, a light is sighted and it begins to grow.
The blackholes are completely awe inspiring, but I feel that the source of all our 'beingness' stems to the light that resided in the darkness. I do beleive that darkness was first and then came light, but the light was the flame of self awareness. So it can be inferred that darkness might be unconcious of itself while Light is aware of its very own existence (and the darkness' existence as well). I find this alone to lend creedence to that Light is darkness 'evolved.'
And one last analogy, I also find it interesting that you can't make a room darker but you an always make it brighter. If you are in a giant werehouse that is pitch black, all it takes is one small candle to extinguish it. Also, if you were to open the door to the wherehouse, darkness does not rush out, but rather light rushes in.
Gah, this was a very badly put together rant. Sorry!
