The best way to fix an insecurity problem is to make sure that you have all the latest versions of the software services that you are running and make sure they are up to date with the latest patches. New vulnerabilities are coming out ALL THE TIME regarding security issues, hackers always stay one step ahead.

Once you have updated the software on your box you should do some research on setting up the configurations. Once you harden your equipment via proper configuration the job of the attacker is made much more difficult.

You also might want to invest in some kind of encryption solution.
