Man, that's the answer right there. Guys between the ages of 17 or 18 thru 21 to 25 are being pulled in 2 different directions.
Part of you wants to stay a kid & let the folks worry about any probs, but society is pulling the other way...into adulthood & want you to grow-up & be responsible.
I'd say his best bet is talking to a doctor about his ecstasy era.
