I read somewhere that getting up early, when you are young, is much more difficult due to higher melatonin levels. The whole inner clock works differently. It's easier to stay up later (and harder to fall asleep early) when you're younger, and the opposite is true when you are older. I think your task is herculean not because you lack the correct technique, but because you're fighting an uphill battle against biology.

This is exactly true, especially in my situation. I've been diagnosed with
delayed sleep-phase syndrome and it proves itself worthy each night; I literally cannot fall asleep before 2:30 am, and then naturally wake around 10-11am, and that way I feel most rested, I guess because my circadian rhythm is off.
This has been solved almost entirely by 3-6mg Melatonin each night... the stuff really does work
