it all depends on how you make your beats. if you're purely sample based, then go with an mpd and get a keyboard you can hook up to it. if you like builing your own beats and shit from scratch and then adding samples onto that, go with the xr20 and then you can sample from dvd or just wavs or mp3s on your computer. the only thing limiting what you can do is your creativity.

actually an mpc1000 is about 500 bucks on ebay, where as the Phantom-S (judging by the S, it's pretty old) doesn't even appear on ebay or anywhere else on the internet available for sale. Though I saw the MSRP was 2500...
