"Merchants" is from
emporos, meaning a (
wholesale) tradesmen.
"Great men" is from
megistanes, meaning
grandees. A grandee is a person of eminence or high rank. I think that would be what we call
government.
"Sorceries" is from
pharmakeia, meaning
medication (“pharmacy”), that is, (by extension)
magic (literal or figurative)
"Deceived" is from
planao, meaning to (properly
cause to) roam (from safety, truth, or virtue)
If we replace the words with their meanings we get:
thy wholesale tradesmen were the government of the Earth; for by thy medication/pharmacy were all nations caused to roam from safety.
