i have these threads all subscribed. excellent info, been keepin tabs on em. i top dress ewc rather than brew teas for the simple reason that i dont have an airpump. that lactos bacilli however i HIGHLY reccomend to anyone who builds their own soil and for ppl looking to add more beneficials to their current medium (not so sure about use with hydro, tho). it's extremely easy to make, and anyone can make it with ingredients they already have. i innoculate my medium when i first mix it/wet it (2 tbsn a gal h20), then once more after i amend any nutes to my medium (same amount). imo, it breaks down the ingredients faster, making your soil ready to use quicker, and adds more beneficial microbes and bacteria to the medium. ive been thinking about switching over to making my own ferts, but until i get more $ to invest into this, im still going to use bought nutes and ferts.
i know you didnt ask for all these links, but i would love to switch over from pre-packaged nutes and castings/compost to being self-reliant. ive even thought about culturing my own mycorrhizae but it's pretty involved. anyways, these links are all from the organic soil forum @ ic. im not familiar with hydro, but these should be able to help either way.
