Agree for sure getting a good fan and filter should be priority.
Been running a 600w Lumatek myself with no issues and good bulb life (far as I can tell). It runs cooler than a 400w mag ballast so there must be some energy saving there. I have heard of people having issues with certain bulbs and digital ballasts.
Anyway magnetic ballasts are tried and trusted technology and I think the energy savings of digital ballasts are small.
