Having played lots of COD (and other FPS), I can say that they are no comparison to real life anything. Not that I have combat experience to compare, but unless you're fucking retarded it's easy to differentiate between RL and computer.
I think what really happens is that things like TV, movies, games where you see a guy get shot and he dies, is what's misleading people. You don't see the actual gore of shooting a person (like his guys and shit), and he's instantly dead.
