I have to wonder tho, what made this guy capable of doing something like this. Was it the kind of father he himself had? Or was it the traumas he was exposed to in war? Today's perpetrator is often yesterday's victim, and undamaged people generally don't feel the need to torture others, especially the helpless. As horrific as what this guy did was, a moment to consider compassion for him as well is probably not uncalled for.

My Wife works at a sexual assault centre and I know this method might be heinous, but the amount of trauma that comes from it can't be any greater than the stories my Wife tells me when she comes home.
At the Centre they also work with people who are the abusers (men and women). These people on the other side of the circle of violence wanting to break the chain of their pasts, their own abuses and recover so they can have 'normal' relationships.
I agree with Rev that compassion all around is what will make this healing for those involved. Not that Dad shouldn't get in trouble here or anything.
But I think we all know the prison system isn't to rehabilitate.
I hope that girl is somewhere safe and protected with a group of people who will help her work through this for her own benefit and that the repercussions of this don't only further the circle of pain in her now and future.
