In essence, even if we assume that it is indeed a unique, independent, individual identity that is being "channeled" through the equally unique, independent, and individual identity of the "medium", the end result that we experience through their spoken word would then not be one or the other but a mix of the two as the communications from the "entity" would have to first pass through the filtration system of the "mediums" conscious framework. The ability and conscious understanding of the "medium" would then come to determine how uncontaminated the end result would be.
In this sense, it'd be better, imo, to see channeling as a state of personal perspective taken place in a deep hypnotic state where the "waking world" characteristics of the mediums mind have dissolved to a degree where they no longer truly are that individual yet another of whatever label or name we want to give it. This is appealing as it better accommodates a universal perspective of "one". In this sense, the individual dividers we see between say Seth and Jane are more a matter of conventional convenience and understanding than a true reflection of the reality. They are as much one in the same as they are different.
Regardless of the mechanism of conveyance, the meaning and messages that are being conveyed are of top notch quality. When one considers their date of authorship, the general knowledge that was available at that time, and the content of the material, one cannot help but be taken aback. Now, many years into the future, with the luxury of the internet, one can look back on their deductions and conclusions, look at the general understanding of reality and the universe now, and say "shit, they're still not far from the mark."
It's not the way the information got to you, or who placed their stamp of approval on it prior to it reaching you, or if it belongs to a particular school of thought or not, that is of any importance. The only thing that is truly important is how, upon reception, you contemplate, integrate, and deal with the information you've been provided. Like I said to my buddy before he went on a soul searching trip: It's not what you do in Thailand that's important, it's what you do after Thailand.
