There is also a saying to not give the whole nut right away, most bands these days have anywhere from 30-100(10-30 A-B grade) song/song fragments in play, meaning they could have up to 2-3 albums before the first even sees release, especially if they are in a bidding war with labels, which can see acts releasing volumes of mix-tapes/eps, independently....

As stated above, bands will have a mass of material built up over as you said "a lifetime" so sophomore releases that sound really similar are that way in part because the song ideas were all kicking around at the same time as earlier works...It is when it takes a band 2 years of touring and 18 additional months in the studio to come up with a second album that the are abiding by the old adage stated previously...

As i see it the group will reach the first peak, then splinter, a couple dudes will fall out of the game... Tyler if he keeps his head on right will be just fine...I am enjoying that they are still in the homegrown stage of their career, it leads to a more unique sound/performance...
