I heard a loud whirring over my head and thought it was a humming bird, but it was a Julyfly.

This is one I had from Spring 2009. It was a rat snake climbing the trunk of a dead giant oak right beside my driveway, about 20 feet from my house.

I was sitting by a pear tree watching my honeybees and saw a dark spot on the ground. I went over to investigate, and it appears to be a swarm of honeybees on the ground. It was real windy so I wonder if the queen got blown to the ground?

I had a spare hive and some queen scent, so I set it right beside them, put some sticks for them to use as bridges and they came inside in a stream...When it got dark there was still a paper plate size ball of bees on the ground, like they were staying put for the night, the rest are inside the hive.

Tomorrow morning I have to cut down 2 small tree stumps, and then I am going to get some blocks and set up a hive for these bees hopefully! Nothing like free bees, when normally they are $90-$115 for a 3 pound package

My pear tree literally destroying itself... We had a lot of rain this year, and it usually has a couple of lean years and then a bounty year.... I guess this year was the bounty year and with the rain, it can't support it's branches, they have been breaking since July. It looks like it was hit by a tornado, and there was nothing I could do, but watch....Of course the deer have been feasting good on them, I see 2 or 3 at a time a lot of days chowing down. The pears are just now ripe, so I will get a few of what's left I reckon. Not sure what to do with the tree yet, I can't get to all the broken branches to cut them off.
