That's a good question. I don't know if it's been 1000 miles yet, but I would estimate that it's close. I've climbed 100 mountains, but I've also climbed a few multiple times, and climbed one like 100 times as a training thing (that was 5 miles each time). Actually, now that I think of it, it's probably been more than 1000 miles.

Time to invest.

That's a lot of footwork.

Mount Baldy

Went up to Mount Baldy again this last weekend. Last time was July 2012, 3 years and 70 lbs ago. I took a different route this time, the Old Baldy Trail, which was the original trail up there established like 100 years ago. It was a pretty cool walk. However, when I got to the top, I found it overrun with hikers of all kinds. It looked like a party, with people milling around, laughing, talking too loud, etc. Fortunately, my trail was the road less traveled, so I got to enjoy some solitude for the majority of the day.

Here are two pictures I took on a hike near Ithaca, NY a couple of weeks ago. They're not nearly as epic as Rev's and yes, they were taken vertically with an iPhone. Was killing time before a music festival in the middle of a 10 day music/road trip that was pretty heavy in the mind expansion department, so my photography skills weren't terribly on point. The night before this hike was spent in Loyalsock State Forest in the boonies of Pennsylvania; the third bonus pic below is a panorama I took of our site shortly before my sobriety set with the Sun.

Sorry for blowing your minds with my photography prowess, but I was poking around here as I sometimes do and thought I'd say hi.

Cheers!

Smokie

As long as you're willing to wait up for me from time to time. I'm old and grizzled.

Here's some shots from my last trip to the high country. I climbed a mountain called "The Dragon's Head" up near San Gorgonio Mountain. Got to see some old trees, which I dig. Many Lodgepole pines in the many hundreds of years old range. Also, the views were badass.

Here's one I took yesterday, near the summit of Mt. Baden-Powell in the San Gabriel Mountains. It's a 1000+ year old Limber Pine, overlooking the Mojave Desert and Death Valley beyond.

Rev I haven't looked at this thread in quite a while, and returning to it was SOOOO worth it! Thanks!

I'll add a few pics of my own. Not the epic vistas on mountain hikes, but more tree focused.

Peri-urban creek.

Rural creek.

From the middle of a fen.

The boardwalk through the fen looking towards an esker.

Beautiful colours. (sorry about the sideways pics, struggling with free uploaders)

This oak (Can't remember if red or white) is at least 300-400 years old. From a rare southern Ontario old growth forest.

Can't forget these essential little guys

I've got other pics, but I had a hell of a time uploading without signing up for something. I don't remember it being that difficult.

Took a hike up to the snow yesterday, and I discovered that snow really does grow as it rolls downhill. It just turns into a wheel instead of a ball.
