Lube + Anal = Bad

Lubricants may increase disease risk of anal sex, studies show

The use of lubricants may make anal sex more comfortable, but they may also increase the risk of spreading sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, researchers said Tuesday. Many experts have been concerned about the potential effects of such lubricants, but there have previously been virtually no studies about how they affect disease.

In the United States, as many as 90% of gay men practice anal sex, according to International Rectal Microbicides Advocates, a group that has been lobbying for the development of microbicides — chemical agents that can kill HIV during sexual acts. Estimates in the U.S. also suggest that as many as 35% of women have participated in anal sex at least once. The majority of both sexes are thought to use lubricants to ease penetration.

Epidemiologist Pamina H. Gorbach of UCLA's Geffen School of Medicine and her colleagues studied 879 men and women between October 2006 and December 2008. The participants were tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia and queried about their sexual behavior in private, computer-based interviews, which have been shown to elicit more truthful answers than face-to-face interviews. Of the 879 participants, 229 men and 192 women reported having receptive anal intercourse in the past year, and about half said they used lubricants. When the team analyzed the data, Gorbach told a Pittsburgh microbicides meeting, they found that those who used lubricants were three times as likely to have contracted a rectal infection.

A partial explanation for the increased risk may have been provided by Charlene Dezzutti, a reproductive science specialist at the University of Pittsburgh, and her colleagues. They studied the effects of six of the most popular lubricants on rectal cells and tissues in laboratory dishes. They found that many of the products had high concentrations of dissolved salts and sugars that draw water out of cells, weakening and even killing the cells. Some of them even stripped away significant portions of the surface epithelial cells on the rectal tissue, the layer of cells that serves as a protective barrier. They also studied the effect of the lubricants on beneficial bacteria in the rectum.

Two of the six lubricants, PRE and Wet Platinum, were shown to be safest for the cells, while Astroglide was the most toxic to cells and tissue. KY Jelly had the worst effect on rectal bacteria, essentially wiping out the entire colony. ID Glide and Elbow Grease had intermediate effects, the team found. None of the lubricants was found to have measurable anti-HIV activity.

The team now plans to investigate the effect of the lubricants on HIV infections.

I don't know any gay men who actively do not have anal sex.

It's not necessarily something that always happens and "sex" is not synonymous with anal, but it's certainly an aspect of it.

so no mafoo, I'd be shocked if there was a study that said most gay men don't

Sounds like there should be better regulation on the lubes ingredients and purity. I mean why do you need sugar in anal lube? Honestly. As for salt's, I also wonder it's importance... Sounds like a butt margarita without the booze.

Not all gay and bisexual men have anal sex that's true.

Also lots of us consider it all to be anal sex including fisting, rimming, fingers, toys, or anal intercourse but of course not everyone does all of this or any of it.

I've heard everything from how most gay and bisexual men are more into oral sex to how mostly all gay and bisexual men are into anal sex even if they just do it very rarely and only with a partner or a boyfriend.

I have also been told that more heterosexuals than bisexual and gay men have anal sex but again that is because most people are heterosexual.

Despite the myth and what I've read sex educators saying just because a man has anal sex either as the top/active/giver or bottom/passive/taker that does not mean that they do it all the time they have sex or that they even can or want to fuck and get fucked. Some men enjoy taking dildos or using them in someone's ass and some men just prefer using their penis only. Lots of anal sex bottoms do tell me how for them it's easier to take a cock than it is a toy even if the toy is made out of high grade silicone.

This does not surprise me about the lubes but even douching or enemas beforehand are not good for the anus even though lots of men and women do them. Enemas or douching with water strip the anus of the mucous and can increase your risk of getting HIV or an STD if you are having bareback sex or if you are having sex and the condom breaks.

As long as you eat lots of fiber, stay hydrated, and everything works normally in your lower digestive tract you should not need enemas or douching before anal sex and you won't have issues with poo if you do this. Some people also space out meals and have anal sex before eating.

I've never seen ingredients like salt or sugar in lubes but I am not even that into anal sex and when I give it to others I just use fingers and toys and I use condoms on the toys and I would use gloves on my hand if my partner had an STD. I have zero desire to get anal sex. I use the high quality lubes like Wet Light, Eros, and Gun oil. Some of these lubes are for j/o only and some are fine for j/o and anal sex as they are compatible with latex and silicone while the others are not.

I never used flavored or edible lubes which are the ones that probably have the sugar in them. I know that the flavored condoms and dental dams have sugars in them.

Anal sex without lube is bad but that is because the anus can tear easily and bleed and you wouldn't even know it and this happens when zero lube is used or not enough lube is used.

Condoms should be used for anal sex even anal sex with toys that are shared. Many people use them on toys even if they use the toy alone since it makes for easier clean up and makes the toy last longer.

Coconut Oil is not compatible with latex as it destroys latex. It may be compatible with polyurethane condoms but I do not use those.

As far as swallowing someone else's cum or taking someone else's cum in your mouth goes not all bisexual and gay men are even into this and many find it nasty.

All I know is that the first time that shit hit the back of my throat, I knew I wasn't gay.

Coconut Oil works best for Anal.

Take my word for it, or try it, and be convinced.
