I'll come here from time to time and post my random stories, thoughts, and observations. This is my place for stuff that I feel might be too... Perceived Reality

Imagine the typical suburban dweller on a Saturday afternoon. The television set in the living room is on, showing the latest Subway ad before the thousandth re-run of SVU comes back on. Sunlight streams through the open window in the kitchen. A rich vanilla aroma signals cookies in the oven. All of these things are real, concrete to the viewer. But are they, really?

To our minds, the information gathered by our senses defines reality. But is there a difference between real reality and perceived reality? Imagine for a moment the profound changes in perception we would have if our vision were broadened slightly to see into the UV and IR spectrums? Or if our hearing could somehow surpass the 15Hz - 20KHz range? Now consider if our sense of smell processed in the occipital lobe, or any other odd and fantastic configuration. To me, this really drives home how reality itself is based in perception.

It has been proposed, by mathematical and scientific minds far superior to my own, that there are another 6 or so spacial dimensions other than the 3 we move through and the dimension of time itself (Google string theory, M theory, quantum mechanics if confused). Should the essence of true reality not also include the unseen, the unperceived? But once again we are forced to recognize that the very act of perception alters and colors reality.

So, what is really real? Well, it's all a matter of how you look at it, isn't it.
