We only done it a couple of times, but I went by a recipe of 1/4 oz bud to a lb. of butter. We didn't chop it too much, it was still nugget size, cause we strained it with cheese cloth and it keeps too much of the plant matter from getting in your butter.
Got a 2 or 3 qt boiler, got it about half full of water to about boiling, put in the butter and herb, and cut it to a slow simmer for about 3 hrs, with the lid on. Then turn it off, get someone to hold the cheese cloth over a big bowl, while you keep the lid cocked, and pour the liquid in. Then we put on some of those thick rubber kitchen cleaning gloves and squeezed the weed in the cheese cloth to wring it out. Stuck it in the fridge overnight, next day, poke a hole in the butter, drain out the water and scrape the butter out.
When we made brownies, just substituted the oil in the mix with butter.... We both ate one right after lunch, and was still buzzin' at 9pm. But they can take up to an hour or hour and a half to take effect. They was a little too strong for me, but my wife loved them.

yeah... it looks rough, and don't smell great.just slightly bubbling....you don't want it to get to boiling too much or it will scorch and stink and won't be edible. If ya have to, you can add more water, then just bring it back to a simmer again.
