I Like to Wine
Name some of your favorite labels, vintages, regions, etc., etc...
I know my fellow hookans are classy connoisseurs of vino! Bet you have some great suggestions. I like... Teatown Cellars, 2007 Napa Valley Merlot Quattro Mani, Italian Montepulciano Alberto Longo, Calcarra Vecchia, Italian Cab Sauv/Merlot blend Chilean Cab Sauvs, esp. from the Colchagua region (Central Valley, etc.) Marlborough, NZ Sauvignon Blancs (Grove Mill, Cloudy Bay, Nautilius) I also just recently tasted some Italian label called "Visions of J" which was excellent. Name some faves!

They make a boxed wine with an unassuming name like "Wine in a Box", but unlike Franzia which is like a wine cooler, this stuff is actually pretty decent.
Not all cheap wines are bad, also -- you can buy a lot of inexpensive wines from regions like Chile, South Africa, Argentina, and Australia. Unless you mean "wines" like this?

im just starting to get into producing my own wine from meads, herbs, and fruit. i have a couple of fermenters and shit for homebrewing, but wine is a completely different beast. looks like fun though, and i bought a couple books on the subject that im now reading.
anyways, i always have prefered dry whites and sweet & fruity country wines over all. reds just have too much tannin in it... always tastes like oak trees and gym socks to me. no real brand name aficionado, but any decent dry white is good. but if im drinking wine to get drunk and not for taste, i fucks with that carlos rossi rhine. pour the shit over ice, get tow up.

carlos rossi makes a damn fine chablis, if you haven't tried. that's a summertime wine, and they sell the shiz in a jug.

word. it's my second fav out of the whites from carlo. but i like the tangy sweetness of the rhine. that for me is perfect summer drank. the jug even has a perfect loop handle to grip and sip. and when i say im not drinking carlo rossi for taste, i dont mean it tastes bad. it's pretty damn good, actually. fittin' to get a 4L of that today.

Love wine and come from a family of serious wine buffs!
I mostly drink red, I do occasionally slurp white but it tends to lead to heartburn so I mostly avoid it... Am a big fan of tinto Riojas... and Spanish reds in general. Campo Viejo Crianza being my most commonly bought one. Had a couple of really nice bottles of French red bought for me recently, lucky beggar that I am. Roc de Lussac from Lussac St-Emillion, Bordeaux and Chateau Malvies-Guilhem from Cotes de Malpere spring to mind as really nice ones to look out for. And as impressive and posh as that might sound, I am still partial to swigging buckfast from the bottle or pints of Lambrini at parties aswell... hehehe. Quote:

I tend to drink the BC wines. Painted Turtle is a good inexpensive bottle.
Naked Grape from Ontario is pretty cool because they don't oak their wines, which really lets the taste fly.

I prefer old world wines with the exception of Chilean, Argentinean and New Zealand. The French still make the best wine if you can afford it, 75 Margaux ftw. Spanish wine seems like the best value atm. California and Australia keep all their best wines for themselves I think, everything you can get over here tastes like blackcurrant and petrol .

I like jail house wine. Hell yea, the sweet savory flavor of shitty mash, cleaned in a nice aluminum toilet bowl.
Just kidding. I only drink Cabernet Souvignon just cuz that's all my moms drinks. It's got a nice red taste. Could use a little bit of a bite, or maybe even some fruit for Sangria. Sangria is the best. But I don't really drink much wine at all and if I do, it's 2 buck chuck, and I chill on it. Or that Carlo Rossi is pretty good. I used to mix that with vodka all the time.

Is commercial wine not potent?
I was able to get a hold of some home-made Ben and Jerry's Muscadine Swamp Wine once (sounds classy, I know!) and it was the best wine I've ever had. It wasn't dry tasting at all and one glass was enough for a strong mellowish buzz. I haven't been able to get anymore or find a commercial wine that's as potent. |

Cab and Shiraz are my two favourite wines.
We use Carlo to make mulled wine in the winter. Cinnamon, cloves and a wee sugar. stir stir stir ever 10 mins for about 30 or so, and you got yourself some winter wonderment and one serious buzz on.
