Drug Testing Question

Hi I couldn't get an answer at answers.com so here i found you all through google,question is I have been taking over the counter sleep aids,they have acetaminophen -PM and each is 500 mg also it includes Diphenhydramine HC1 25 mg each ,I had 2 last night and when i went to the Doctor Today I had a urine test and it showed Darvon in my system,the thing is I don't or never took Darvon so this must be a case of False/positive right? anybody please

so anyways they sent my drug test for a in depth tests on it. boy i am so mad they treat you like your a drug addict,i have been going to this new medical clinic for about 3 mths the first time i went they did a drug test and i had nothing on my screening and 2nd time she never gave me one ok this was my 3rd trip there and she did give me one now she would not give me my pain medicine till the screening comes back..boy i am mad so mad i could just ... I am a 54 yr old woman with oteoporosis and rheumitiod arthirits and always and in pain very upset if you know what i mean,she tried to give me my other scripts but the humiliation i did not take them what do you people think

Yes, there are many natural and man made chemicals that can read as false positives on a standard "instant" urine tests. As little a 5 years ago a double dose of Tylenol would read a false positive for marijuana.(They did fix the tests so don't try to use this as an excuse) Even still, eating anything with poppy seeds will show a false positive for opiates. Not all chemicals are known which cause false positives this sleep aid that you took could very well be one of them.

When they ask what medications you take (prescribed or natural) please be as thorough as possible otherwise you are to expect to be treated unfairly. No matter what you are taking, prescription or otherwise, you are not under any obligation to tell anyone why you take those medications this is one of your rights as a patient. This means (especially with cops, paramedics, clinical staff etc.) you are required to tell them what you are taking in case you require medical attention they don't want to cause adverse reactions to what you might be taking. But you should NEVER NEVER EVER tell them why you take said medications. That is a confidential question and asking that is unethical. The only person who you must answer that question to is a physician because we are bound by doctor/patient confidentiality unless they are subpoenaed by a judge. (which is very very rare)

This would be very difficult to sue for malpractice unless you can get a copy of the clinical results from the drug test.(Be as sweet as you can when you ask) If it turns out you were clean and Darvon free then you may also want to speak to a lawyer especially if these other meds you needed are a quality of life issue.(Meaning that they were absolutely necessary to your health and wellness IE. diabetes meds and heart meds) If the clinic will not relinquish your results, then your lawyer can get the results by motioning a judge for a subpoena but that should not be necessary because you are legally allowed access to your medical records and it is against the law for anyone to hold your records from you. Please, EVERYONE, be careful. Look up your states laws on patients rights and privileges and be absolutely certain that your rights are not being violated. Keep looking for my posts. I will post the federal "patients bill of rights" shortly.

And good luck Saphireblue. I know this is a hassle but these clinics have to balance the best interest of you, themselves, and their other patients from misuse and fraudulent use of their services. This is a difficult job, and every once in awhile you will come across a "high and mighty", super vigilant, person who takes their job way too seriously. This goes for every profession.

God,Thanks so much this really helped me ,you know I have Rheumatioid arthiritis and poly Arthiritis terribly and I need my pain med's,yep i made a mistake and changed to a new place since it was closer to my home and honestly they don't know me from adam but my records i brought to them.They have treated me with such disrespect,I was so humiliated,I have never ever had to succomb to such humiliation,the only time i ever had a drug test is for a Job thats it.I have been crying because i am in so much pain..
It's a shame they can treat people like me a 54 year old lady,you know I will never ever go back to that place,can you believe they are holding my med's that i need till "THE TEST" comes back...

Ok I called today at 11:00 like they said to see if this TEST came back from the lab,they said it would,well anyways she was very rude to me on the phone and said very short,"It hasn't come in yet call at 4:00" she closed the line,ok waited till 4:15 and called back and she left me on hold for at least 10 min. Then came back on the phone and said very short "You'll have to call tomorrow at 11:00" My God I went to the Doctor on Friday Morning at 9 AM what in the hell would take this long! as it is I had to be without my med's all weekend and boy was and am in so much Pain..i cry and cry and cry and think how cruel can people be,no compassion for people who are not a Drug addict,Drug Dealer or whatever just a poor lady who went to the Horror's Office

It is 3:30 the next day, i didn't call yet,she said she would call me nothing yet and I feel like i am living a nightmare, just in pain i want it to end I cannot stand the pain.you know i just don't think i can take it anymore i hurt so much i am so sad and mad and cry and angry
I am not going to call again,my son is so mad he wants to go down there and i said no way.let's just wait
and see.. boy i should call someone though,who do you think i can call for help?

Call and ask to speak to the doctor. When your speak to the doctor explain to him your situation and ask if he could at least give you enough pain medication to get you through until the drug test comes back. If he does not give your a prescription than I suppose you should go back to your other doctor. If your other doctor can, (it may be easier) have him to call and speak to your new doctor to explain your prior treatments. Again I urege you to speak to a medical malpractice lawyer. Some have 800 numbers and allow you to get information and speak a lawyer about your case.

Hello more advice needed,ok drug test came back and I have not seen the test,they never showed it to me. they said nothing about the darvon supposibly in my system ,NOW she said i had none of the meds she gave me last month were in my system ,NOT TRUE i had taken my gabepentin,yes i told her to increase my pain meds last month because i am in so much pain she had said no. ok,so i was taking maybe half pill more each day when i needed to ,now this is after i asked her mind you,the month earlier well in the drug test their was no medications in my system, she gave me that is a lie i have been taking my gabepentin or neurotin ,ambien.anyways I was so upset and shook up my roomate went with me for support to the doctor to get the results so she could give me my med's if the test came back and there was no darvon in my system. well i sat for 2 hours,not ever seeing the Nurse and they finally called me to the window and said she will call in my perscriptions,which were in the hands of the lady at the window can you believe she would not even give me my scripts,what does THAT mean? not only that she never gave me my pain meds,she cut down all my meds,never gave me my ambien either. she said she is calling in the scripts and said she would not give me the pain meds but yes to the neurotin oh i was mad . anyways i went to the pharmacy and do you know i got my high blood pressure med and 15 vistaril when I was getting 90 a month before.then i looked in the bag and she put a hold on my Neurotin too! boy i feel i might have a lawsuit.the pain and suffering and humiliation. I called this morning and told them i want my records and will no longer need their services and that I was teated unethical and unfairly,and also I am on disability for my ailments What Do you Think I should do? Get an Malpractice attorney to review everything? or just find another Doctor? won't this ruin me from ever getting my med's again? please help me I need advice. Thanks

Also she said I could not have my pain meds till i got to an appt with another orthopedic doctor she put them now on hold and for me to go to a doctor for my back ,I never mentioned my back to her!!!! nor is it in my medical files that i know of. Its poly arthiritis ,rheumetoid arthiritis mostly in hands and feet. also the first time she gave me my scripts she put a script for neurotin AND gabepentin and I even knew it is the same thing!! one is generic form ,i should have known then she was a quack~!
also this is a walk in clinic I have never seen a Doctor there,they always say he is not in

I am going to cancel the appts she gave me to,was shocked she had me down to see a doctor for my back! what a quack. also i told the nurse at the orthopedic office that set up that appt. its my hands and feet! so she set me up 3 appts! with 3 different doctors. geez i already have proof of my medical thats how i got my disability my god i don't know what to think or do/

Around here, getting a family Doc is almost impossible, lots of people I know are forced to go see this one and that one for their required meds!

Any way of getting a regular Doc through the local hospital? You really need a 'Pain Specialist'!

Call a lawyer and find another doctor . thats the best i can tell you at this point. you should try going back to your original doctor if you can. Unfortunatly switching doctors these days is becoming so much harder.

yes I know i was treated badly,let me explain just looking at me my hands have nubeulla from the rheumitoid arthritis on the wrist and above my thumb i can hardly use my computer now ,cause i hurt so much. and my toes are all crooked curled up from the arthiritis can hardly walk anymore especially now. i am so sad,...
