The truth about military drug testing
Hey folks. I've been a substance abuse rep for the last 3 years in the Marines. There are a lot of myths and whatnot when it comes to military drug testing and I'm here to give you the scoop.
The drugs tests you take individually when you first join are unavoidable. Be clean or fail. Once you leave boot camp and start checking into your school or unit, large scale and random drug tests divide everyone into groups of 9 people. All of those 9 people will their their urine bottles shipped off to be tested in the same box. So, 54 people being tested will consist of 6 boxes of urine. Of the 9 bottles in the box, only 1 gets tested. Out of 54 bottles, only 6 will be tested. If any of those tested bottles fails, they go back and test every bottle from THAT box. Only major drugs are tested for. Stuff like steroids and LSD are not normally tested for, and for you to be tested for stuff like that, the command has to have a reason to believe you are using them. If you volunteer to be a pee watcher for drug tests, you will be sent to a short school about drug testing, then you are given the power to choose the roster for random drug testing. Its pretty easy to get away with if you play the odds in your favor.
