well there's three different types of security clearances with the military, a classified, secret and top secret, usually a classified involves a standard background check, for me (when I was active duty) a secret security clearance involved a pair of AFOSI (Air Force Office of Special Investigations) agents go through financial records, interview people that you know/knew...

when I first started working IT at the headquarters building I asked one of the other IT people about being tested and they asked me if I had a reason to be worried about passing one (I'd like to think they were fucking with me but who knows), that's when I dropped it and never said anything about it again. Does it make a differance that there was no mention of a drug test on the offer of employment letter nor on the conditions of employment thing I had to sign? Most of the info i've found seems to point out that they would usually tell you up front if passing a pre-employment drug test were necessary?

just be sure not to get nabbed for probable cause because they look for that!
