Furosemide is not usually included in the test. It is not a substance of abuse. You want the urine to be dilute. The more concentrated it is, the more likely you will have a positive result. The fact that onestar has used for many years means his cells are saturated with THC. The furosemide (aka Lasix) will help, not hurt.

thought i read somewhere that they test for things used to help pass drug tests, like prescription diuretics, but i may be wrong or that may be for different kinds of tests.

now that i think about it i am mistaken, as a diuretic will not push THC from your fat to your kidneys faster, it will instead move more water through your kidneys, washing out the THC thats already there..i guess theres no way to keep it in our kidneys. I was falsely thinking of this like exercise, but thats different because the burning of fat actually releases it into your blood stream.

my bad onestar, listen to nursem

I'm going to keep using a prescribed dose 20mg of lasix until right before the test, abstain from using until afterward, exercise as much as possible & drink as much water as possible.
~Thank you for your responses. The more information i have the better off i am with the management strategy. I'll let you know the results.

When you take the test they will ask you what prescription/non-prescription drugs you take regularly. Tell them your doctor has given you furosemide for years and that without it you fill up with fluid, go into congestive failure or whatever the reason is. Don't stop taking it before the test. You want the urine that they test to be as dilute as possible. They can't zing you for deliberately diluting the urine if you have a legitimate prescription for the furosemide.

Normally dilute urine is a very light color, whereas concentrated urine is darker. The B-vitamins that you also take will make the urine appear darker in color than it actually is related to using the diuretic. I expect they may test urine specific gravity and pH if they are suspicious, but the prescription furosemide will cover you.

As for fluids, there is a formula that is used to determine daily fluid needs according to weight. A 200 pound man needs a minimum of about 2727 ml of fluid per day. This is the equivalent of about 1-2/3 two liter pop bottles or 3 Big Gulp cups. Consuming way too much water can hurt you, so don't go way overboard.

More good info. I did know that too much water can be dangerous but the ratio you indicate is a good guideline for me.

This test will be a standard urine test but you're right they will check it for SG & pH. I have had a diagnosis of congestive heart failure & other conditions appropriate to the rx of lasix. Additionally, i have rx for other meds that they will ask about.

Potential employers can set whatever limitations or procedure on the results they want. It's their right. Our part is to be as prepared as possible.

oh, by the way. i do have a state & county issued medical marijuana card, however i will not reveal that unless its necessary.

Thanks for your help. I think others may get something out of this thread also.

Well, I made a mistake. It should be 1-2/3 two liter pop bottles, not 2-2/3. Multitasking. I’m so sorry.

Using the formula, example weights and fluid needs (assuming no medical fluid restrictions) are:
150 pounds = 2045 ml
176 pounds = 2400 ml
200 pounds = 2727 ml
225 pounds = 3068 ml
250 pounds = 3409 ml
275 pounds = 3750 ml
300 pounds = 4091 ml

oh, by the way. i do have a state & county issued medical marijuana card, however i will not reveal that unless its necessary.

A very wise position. You may be interested in this WalMart travesty. It is evident this man is wasting from his picture:

Also just so people know: not all drug testing uses the 50ppm cutoff. I recently came back positive for thc at ~20ppm. The test was done for legal reasons (not by a po though) and was sent to REDWOOD TOXICOLOGY in california. I reccomend finding out what place does your drug testing as it can actually vary what they test for (redwood toxicology, for instance, has the ability to test for mdpv, mephedrone, 2c-e and much more)

MARIJUANA USE MAY BE FOR MEDICAL REASONS, BUT THE EMPLOYEE CAN STILL BE TERMINATED

This just crossed my desk in the past week:

MARIJUANA USE MAY BE FOR MEDICAL REASONS, BUT THE EMPLOYEE CAN STILL BE TERMINATED
Miller Nash LLP
Ever since Washington decriminalized the use of medical marijuana, employers have been
unsure about whether they can terminate an employee for a positive drug test related to
off-site use of medical marijuana.
Marijuana use may be for medical reasons, but the employee can still be terminated - Lexology

(Free registration may be required, but worth it.)

What a pitiful commentary on our society! They waste billions on fighting MJ instead of supporting legalization. The sad part is that it is often the treatment of last resort. Nothing else will relieve the person's symptoms. Done ranting now. I could go on for days.

And all other 'good info' threads created can be copied into this one.
