A sheet of 1 or 1.5 mm aluminium or any metal with a shiny side, a ceramic bulb holder, a few little nuts, bolts and washers, some wiring and a few tools should do the trick.

Are you looking for economy, innovation or ease of supply Dan?

Too be honest, I am looking for something that you can use on a row of lights. Like 3 or 4 cfls in a home made strip light setup.
But individual ones would really be the way to go. That way you could raise and lower each bulb individually.

On overgrow they had a thread (which I have a copy of) where they used a coke (snort) can with a hole cut .... a picture is wirth a thousand words, or 2000 if I type them.

I just don't like the idea of these...

I guess I should explain a little better. I was hoping for things to add to the grow FAQ shhh

The cabinet is exactly 4' wide which lets out tubes (they suck for vegging larger plants anyways) it is about 12-14" deep. There are 2 banks of cfls with 3 in each bank.
The ideal is to be able to raise and lower individual bulbs... hmmm is there an echo?
Jenna thought of the aluminum bent as a bat wing which is good, but the way the bulbs are oriented it won't be very efficient. The bulb faces the front.
I would take a picture but then everyone would have to die.

Almost like a series of roof flashing connected together if you can picture that.

^ ascii picture. oops, dated myself there. Stoned rambling.

The echo was to me for repeating myself. You are right about the individual hoods in this instance.
I am picturing the roofline of ye olde English village for this. All the peaks connected.

Maybe some type of individual reflector like a desklamp... ?

The Lord is intrigueth.

I had a bank of 7 CFL's some time back. They hung side by side, in a straight line from a power strip, using individual clip-on trouble light style reflectors, of the same type as the two fixtures shown in the Holy Fridge of Germination (What to do with a dead refrigerator?) thread. Height for each lamp was adjusted by moving the clip up or down the power cord.

The problem the Lord encountered with the original bank was that there was no sharing/blendeth of lumens. As each lamp had it's own reflector, it mixeth not with the others, and the end result was not much different than having 7 lamps in say, 7 different rooms.

Now... What about this: Take a standard 48" tube reflector, junk out the ballasts and tubes, cut it in half and install a Holy Shitload of CFL's? It wouldn't be easy to have individual lamp up/down adjustment, but it might be an interesting project.

Oh! But the Lord doth adore DIY! Verily!

Peace & Love

That's a good idea. Very good.

There is not the height for that setup in this instance, the lighting has to stay horizontal.
But I bet that would work in someones.
