Here is my next concern. I need to start getting ready for the removal of my clones. I was thinking of color coding my moms to their clones. I was then thinking of taking 1 clone from each to my veg cave to be the actual moms while flowering the originals to see what I have and discarding any males and corresponding clones.

My other option is to just bud all the clones and watch closely to remove all the males. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Amazing hey? I thought it was just me.

I usually clone them all, the males can be real helpful if you find something special. I kind cringe when I read a post saying "the female is the best thing in the world! Umm clone only" .
Or that may be just me, but could happen.

i think its fine to keep the clones in veg and watch the parents through flowering to choose the keepers, as long as youre not in a big hurry

I'm looking at TDS/PH testers, and I'm beginning to wonder if an old multimeter couldn't be used for the same purpose? Does anyone know the actual mechanics of what the pricey grow testers are measuring? The Lord is guessing dissolved salts might very well be based on resistivity of solution, and PH... well, the Lord doth not knoweth.

It'd be an interesting experiment to take a true test device and multimeter and test them side by side, to see if resistivity with the multimeter leads at a fixed distance couldn't be correlated into the data we seek?

From what I understand it is essentially a very nice multimeter that does the equations for you, however it will let you calibrate which I am not sure that a multimeter would provide. To be honest I never had a meter or even tested the water before this grow. Now that I can walk up to my room and press a button and have an instant readout, I couldnt imagine anything less. Perfect for a stoner!

There are calculations and formula's out there to convert electrical conductivity into pH and ppm but with a quick search I was not able to find much on it.

The electrode (the bit that gives variable resistance depending on the TDS and pH) would be the tricky bit, not sure how you would make them DIY style. Would probably be easier to do for TDS than pH.

Also you`d have to allow for temperature variation.
