Kia Ora/Hello from New Zealand.

Hello all.

Decided it would be wise to join up, in the hope that I can learn how to best prune my plants. I've read some of the threads in the past and are wanting to read/learn more. I've got the grow bible and a few other pdf books. Which I'm slowing reading when I get the time.

I've only been growing for the one season and I'm only doing it because of my chronic pain. I had my spine & spinal cord smashed/severed in a motor vehicle accident. I hit a poo lice car doing a u-turn at a blind corner, while I was feeding the fat on my sportsbike. Unfortunately it has not only left me with 80% of my body I cannot use. But I deal with pain levels each day that used to put me back to bed. A friend gave me some cookies to try and although I can't smoke due to damaged lungs. I found/find cooking my harvest into cookies does the trick. I'm only doing a really small scale indoor thing and only grow during the warm/hot summer months. Not only is electricity much cheaper and the conditions much better. But during the cold months here I have to deal with much more pain, stiffness and spasm. As a result I'm far less active and are once again looking forward to summers return. You'll probably note my seasons differ to yours, depending on your location. I'm down, down under in New Zealand and its still illegal to use/grow, even if its solely medicinal use. I am led to believe that its probably only a matter of time until medicinal use is OKed. But Cannabis here is such a widespead thing in NZ. That the poo lice & the justice system wouldn't bother with me. Although this is the word, I'm not keen to find out the hard way and grow outdoors at home. I've been really lucky as I've designed two cabinets and a friend has made them for me. I've been using large fluro bulbs and led grow lights. Its working quite well and definitely provides me with what I need. I bake with everything just harvested/green and it comes out really good. I've tried others baking where they first make canabutter. But honestly its a waste of time/effort and I think it produces a lesser quality produce.

We have a norml movement here in NZ, who have pointed themselves as the promoter of medpot here. Unfortunately they are a bunch of know it alls and often have no idea of what medpot really is. despite the fact that they have self asigned themselves as experts. I don't claim to be anything more than a novice when it comes to growing. But I have to laugh at people who try to claim their use is medicinal and give a weak reason for doing so. I used to be a registered nurse working in mental health and have looked after individuals whos lives was a mess, because of their use. I really think that cannabis will never become legal and norml is completely unrealistic with what they say.

Personally I think that anyone who is selling cannabis is just a criminal and any medpot user who is selling. Is just a liar and a criminal, who shouldn't be allowed to continue medpot use. Unless the criminal aspect is removed from use, the user is a criminal. Unfortunately its blatantly obvious that norml nz believes they should be able to do what they want with cannabis and are largely a bunch of criminals themselves. I know that these comments will not be very popular. But I really don't care, because its only the criminals that are getting upset with what I'm saying.

Lets face it. If I can grow my own and have only 1/5th use of my body. Anyone can grow their own, for their own use. Provided I don't drive (yes I do this myself) while under the influience, then no one wants/needs to know what I'm doing and I'm doing no harm. I'm only using at the part of the day when I've been active and my pain level has become too much to cope with. Honestly the human body/mind can cope with a huge amount of pain. I only use when I would have been inactive any way and I find myself still able to be active at home, under the influience. I have a relatively small amount, to affect my body and not so much my mind. If I have too much, I cannot do much and end up wired and glued to the TV. I really like whats happening over in the USA, with the cannabis dispensaries. I've spent alot of $ to set myself up with everything needed to grow. I would love to have a place to buy legally and not have to waste my time/effort growing. So I can do other things in life that I would much prefer to be doing. I'm unsure if that will ever happen here, but I certianly hope so.

If anyone here has information (preferably with pictures) on how to prune to grow bigger buds, I would be extremely gratefull. I'm cutting the lower smaller braches only and would really like to learn how to maximise my yield. Just so I can grow more in the same time and reduce the time needed to grow enough for my yearly need.

Welcome! May I respectfully suggest asking around the disability rights community?
It may be there are other folks in a similar situation.
I know it is so here in the USA.

If you are using cfls and led lights the penetration of the light will be low so pruning the lower parts of the plant may well help.

The aim is to remove leaves and budsites at the bottom of the plant that will be in the shade. Remove everything in the parts you do prune.

Don't overdo it- the plant needs enough leaves to provide a complete canopy to use the light.
Also the plants store energy in the leaves and use them to transpire.

Prune them about 1 week before putting them to flower. This gives them a little time to recover.
Don't prune after this as the plant will get pissed off and maybe go herm.

That's about it really.

Hey thank you for that. I did prune the lower spindly smaller branches last grow and the top buds was much fatter/sticky than ever before. I'm hoping that if I prune the upper limbs so the buds are tightly packed together. Then I might end up with the one large bud cluster, instead of several smaller ones on the branch. But as I'm just starting out, I've got plenty to learn. Sounds like if I had used HPS I would have ended up with much better produce? Well I'm going to have to live with this. As I'm not wanting the associated power bills and heat generated by that type of lighting. Considering what I'm doing, its not really worth the hassle I believe.
Sadly there is no disability movement regarding cannabis, or at least I'm unaware of one. The law here is as such that no one talks about it and I'm only aware of one other user. Out of a large amount of wheelchair users and as we get free medications. I don't think that its considered or at least others cannot be bothered. I was lucky (as much as you can be when smashing your spine/cord) and financially I'm sweet. But most others here are living on very limited finances.
I'm truely against dealing and do not have anything to do with people who do. I know that many people that don't grow, have the need/want to buy. The problem is that this is the problem with cannabis here and there are too many people who think they have the right to deal. My guess is that this is similar in every country and with the P problem here, its unlikely to change.

Oh, kia ora is Maori for hello. The Maori are the indigenious people of NZ. Although there are no full breed Maori left, if you have 1/16th Maori background. Then its considered enough to be considered to be a Maori.
